On December 19th, 1935, Captain Charlie Brentenal departed from Albrook Field, in the Panama Canal Zone, flying Boeing P-12E #23, to conduct routine maneuvers. After encountering a loss of engine power, Brentenal was forced to bail out of his aircraft over the Panamanian jungle. His aircraft was found more than a week later, on December 27th, by members of Battery A, 4th Anti-Aircraft Company, from Fort Amador. One of its members, Edward J. Jablonski, photographed the crash site and cut these sections of linen from the aircraft. Jablonski later joined the Air Corps at Albrook, and compiled a large collection of photographs and aircraft souvenirs within his scrapbook. Jablonski's service trunk was acquired by Cole's Aircraft in 2021.
