Santa's Arrival, Downtown Zanesville, Ohio, c. 1923 - by Ron Cole

I'm happy to reveal my Zanesville, Ohio Christmas composition for 2023!

This surrealist piece is based upon a historical event, which was the flyover of downtown Zanesville by the U.S.S. Shenandoah airship which took place in September 1925. In this revision I've brought to town Santa Claus in what was then the most technologically advanced form of transportation in the world! Santa's arrival is coinciding with the placement of the tree-topper upon the city's Christmas tree outside of the Muskingum County Courthouse - as the latter appeared in the 1920s. There are other fanciful hidden gems scattered throughout this composition. See who is piloting Santa's sleigh, for example?

All in good Holiday fun!
