Commissions

.

I came to this profession, as well as my preferred media, through having been an architectural renderer for big developers in Los Angeles and Las Vegas - where being 'good' wasn't enough. I also had to be efficient, and develop a process that adhered to rigid time constraints as well as provided the highest quality end result. The same was true of my industrial design work, and it's now a natural part of how I work in everything I do. The result, insofar as it effects my aviation art business, is that I can do things that virtually nobody else can do; I can usually do it better, and I can't imagine anyone doing it faster. For commercial work with tight deadlines this is crucial. I recently was offered a book cover with a deadline for the delivery of the finished work less than one week after the order was placed - and I delivered the completed painting in three days, with revisions included. I don't know anybody else who can do that. Obviously, the more time I have to complete work, the better, but I'm uniquely capable of meeting seemingly impossible deadlines. Another advantage that I offer is the ability to revise work, sometimes drastically, right up to the delivery of the completed piece. For other artists this can be problematic, but my process allows for more flexibility with revisions. I'm happy to provide progress images when requested, and make changes as the process evolves.

My price for an average painting commission is $1200 - when I retain limited rights to produce some limited edition prints based upon the piece. I require 50% down to begin work with the balance due upon completion. As as result of my efficiency I typically do not require a delay before I can begin work, and delivery of the completed piece is typically one month after a sketch is approved by the client. I don't know anybody else who can do that. In addition to commissioned pieces, I offer any of my existing work with special revisions for clients - like different unit markings. My ability to revise my existing work to comply with a custom order isn't unlimited (and eventually a revision becomes so dramatic as to warrant an all new commission, with comparable pricing), but I can do a lot. Pricing for such revisions is dependent upon the circumstances.
