Aircraft & Pilot History:
P-51D Mustang (serial number 44-14317) VF-Y of the 336th FS, 4th FG, 8th AF, USAAF. On January 16th, 1945, this aircraft was returning from a raid on Dresden, when the pilot became lost in fog and ran out of fuel over Kent. Capt. Harry N. Hagen bailed out safely and landed in a tree near Folkestone. His Mustang crashed at Lymbridge Green near Stowting, Kent. Capt. Hagen ended the war with five confirmed ‘victories’, the DFC, and Purple Heart.
The crash site of his P-51 was partially excavated in May 1992. 
Each display includes a 2x1-inch section of exterior aluminum skinning from this aircraft, attached to the outside of the acrylic.
