SPECIAL Luftwaffe Junkers Ju 87 G-2 Stuka Airspeed Indicator & Relic Display

Aviation history that you can touch! Very special Ju-87 G-2 relic display that includes both a very rare section of this aircraft, and a very rare, original, Ju-87 airspeed indicator (Fl.22230) - signed & numbered, only one of ten.

The Junkers Ju 87 was initially designed as a dive bomber, and first flew in 1935. It made its combat debut in 1937, in the Spanish Civil War. The 'Stuka' proved to be a formidable weapon in the opening phase of World War II, but proved to be easy prey for Allied fighters, and was vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire. Later in the war, Hans-Ulrich Rudel, a ‘Stuka’ ace, had suggested using two 37 mm Flak 18 guns, each one in a self-contained under-wing gun pod, after achieving success against Soviet tanks with the 20 mm cannon of his Ju 87. Two 37 mm cannons were mounted in under-wing gun pods, each loaded with two six-round magazines of armor-piercing tungsten carbide- cored ammunition. With those weapons, the Kanonenvogel ("cannon-bird"), or 'G' series of the Ju 87, proved very successful in the hands of daring pilots such as Rudel. By then, however, the tide of war had turned against Germany.

The remains of this 'G-2' were discovered outside of Kiev, Ukraine in 1997. The included aluminum section was cut from an upper wing panel, and retains most of its dark green camouflage paint and raised rivets.

The included Fl.22230 fahrtmesser (airspeed indicator) was built by Bruhn-Werke G.m.b.H. in 1940 and 1941 (each is dated), and was standard equipment in all models of the Ju 87 Stuka.

Each display is built into a 3-inch deep matte black shadowbox frame, which may either hang upon a wall or freestand on a flat surface (desk, or shelf, etc.). The back of each display is open, to reveal the reverse of the airspeed indicator and its markings.

Signed and numbered, one of ten.

* Please note that these will not be shipped in time for Christmas, but not long, after, and they won't be discounted. This sort of display series typically sells out within a day.
