RAF Hawker Hurricane Mk.I V6601 Battle of Britain Combat Loss Relic Display
$250.00
Royal Air Force (RAF) Hawker Hurricane Mk.I Battle of Britain combat loss relic display.
257 Squadron, RAF, F/O James Henderson, August 31, 1940
This section of plywood was recovered from the crash site of Hawker Hurricane V6601 (DT-E), shot down on August 31, 1940, by Bf 110s in the area of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England. Flown by F/O J. Henderson, the Hurricane was hit in the ‘the petrol tank’ and caught fire. Henderson bailed out and landed in the sea, later being rescued and admitted with injuries to Brightlingsea Naval Hospital. The wreckage of his aircraft was excavated in July 1979 by the Essex Aviation Group. This piece of recovered plywood with original camouflage green paint is likely from the fuselage cockpit area.
Limited to only 75 - though there will likely be only about 40 before material from this aircraft will run out. Signed & numbered by the artist.
Size: artwork is 11x17-inches, with frame roughly 13x19-inches.
