Authentic fragment from P-51B Mustang European Theater combat loss combined in a nice ready-to-hand display with original artwork of this specific aircraft by Ron Cole.
This P-51B (s/n 43-12391) was one of the first P-51B aircraft to see combat in Europe. In 1944 it was converted into a photo-reconnaissance F-6B and assigned to the 10th Photo Group. On July 30, 1944, this aircraft, piloted by Lt. William Lacey Jr., was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed 5 miles S.E. of Tessy-sur-Vire, France. It was excavated in August 2009.
