P-51B Mustang Lt. W. Lacey Authentic Relic Display

USAAF P-51B / F-6B Mustang authentic aircraft fragment paired with original artwork.
Lt. William D. Lacey of the 10th Photo Squadron was flying his F-6B Mustang (s/n 312391) on the afternoon of July 30, 1944, over Normandy, France, when his plane was hit by ground fire and crashed 5 miles S.E. of Tessy-sur-Vire.  His remains were returned to his family and buried near their home in Toledo, Ohio in 1946.  In August 2009 the crash site of his aircraft was rediscovered and excavated by a French team.  Local townspeople held a fundraiser to erect a memorial for Lt. Lacey near the site of the crash, and some personal items and parts of his aircraft were presented to his surviving family by both the town and the excavation team.

Lacey by Ron Cole, and a side profile depicting Lacey's F-6.
