Airship USS Shenandoah Flown Doped Linen Skin Relic Display by Ron Cole

Authentic flown piece of linen from the first United States Navy rigid airship USS Shenandoah combined with the original artwork of this historic aircraft flying over the Muskingum County Courthouse in Zanesville, Ohio by Ron Cole. Each handmade display measures 13x19-inches and is ready to hang. Each is signed & numbered by the artist. 

The USS Shenandoah helped bring the United States into the then-modern realm of air supremacy with other leading powers such as Great Britain, France, and Germany, all of which had pioneered military aviation and airship design. The Shenandoah, launched in 1923, was featured prominently in publicity films and in print media while it was flown across the nation, often making appearances over major cities, state capitals, county fairs, and sporting events. When the Shenandoah was destroyed in a storm near Caldwell, Ohio on September 2nd, 1925, it was a national tragedy.   

This authenticated and flown silver-doped linen from the Shenandoah was taken from the airship during routine repairs in 1924. It became part of the world-famous personal collection of George Burling Jarrett, whose display of Great War aircraft and other aviation memorabilia was on display on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey from 1937 until after World War 2. Jarrett shared this material with his good friend Robert Boehme. Ron Cole and Cole's Aircraft acquired the Boehme Estate in 2022. 

Each piece of doped linen is approximately 1x1.5-inches and is displayed under glass. This display series will be limited to approximately 100 examples.
