On May 20-21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh achieved a monumental feat in aviation history by completing the first solo, nonstop transatlantic flight. Piloting his custom-built, single-engine monoplane, The Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh departed from Roosevelt Field in Long Island, New York, and landed safely at Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, approximately 33.5 hours later. This historic journey covered a distance of about 3,600 miles (5,800 km) and captivated the world, earning Lindbergh international fame and significantly advancing public interest and investment in aviation.
