P-51C Mustang over Tsinan, 14th Air Force, China

This was originally a commission by the son of the pilot, Lt. John Hunycutt, depicting a famous mission against the Japanese Army airfield at Tsinan, China in 1944. Hunycutt dropped one of his two bombs on a Ki-48 'Lilly' light bomber - a bit too low - and brought several parts of the Japanese plane back with him to his home field, lodged in his aircraft. "That's one way to confirm kills," Hunycutt later told his hometown newspaper in Charlotte, North Carolina.
