Bell XP-59A Airacomet prototype original fabric section relic display.
The XP-59A Airacomet was the first twin jet fighter aircraft produced by the United States. Designed and built by Bell, it was not a serious contender for operational use due to lackluster performance, but it did pave the way for better jets that followed.
This piece of original fabric was cut from this aircraft’s port horizontal stabilizer, a section of which was removed from one of only three XP-59A prototypes not long after World War II. I've had these pieces in my collection for a number of years, but only recently confirmed its origin by uncovering Bell inspection stamps. An extremely significant piece of early American jet-powered aviation history!
Each display is framed with all parts under glass. Each section of fabric is very well preserved - either olive drab upper-surface green or lower-surface gray, over linen. Display measures 11 x 17 inches overall.
