Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf 110 D ZG.1 'Wespe' Stalingrad Loss Relic Display

Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf 110 D ZG.1 Combat Loss Relic Display by Ron Cole

This Messerschmitt Bf 110 D (Werksnummer 4282 - Code S9+EM) operated with Zerstörergeschwader 1 (ZG.1), from the invasion of Poland, through the Battle of Britain, and into Operation Barbarossa - the invasion of the Soviet Union. On September 1st, 1942, during operations around Stalingrad, this aircraft was brought down north of the city by ground fire. In 2020, sections of this aircraft were recovered from the site and acquired by Cole’s Aircraft.

A preserved aluminum piece from this historic aircraft is preserved on this display, with almost all of its near perfectly preserved gray/green camouflage paint.

Display size: 11x17-inches (artwork) - 13x19-inches (overall)

Very limited to only 20, each signed and numbered.

Accompanying photos depict evidence of this aircraft's identification and history, the larger piece of wreckage from which these pieces were cut, and period photos of this specific aircraft. Note that this aircraft, in the 3rd picture, was whitewashed for winter operations in Russia. That was a temporary scheme that was typically removed in the spring, and no evidence of it remains on these parts.
